Houston Chapter
of the Fairview Junior - Senior High School Reunion Corporation The Houston Chapter of the Fairview Reunion
Corporation was established in May 2005. This idea originated from a discussion that was held between five Houston area residents
during the 2004 Fairview School Reunion. The five individuals are former Linden residents and at that time were active
on the Board of Directors of the Corporate Chapter. Due to this fact, they were able to see first hand what was needed
to broaden the scope of raising funds in order to build the Community Center that was so needed in the Linden area.
The idea was brought back to the Houston area and the process of locating other former Linden residents began. The residents of the
South/Southwest sections of the city met in October 2004; the North section of the city met in January 2005 to discuss the
possibility of organizing a local Chapter. The main purpose was to support the Corporate Chapter in Linden, TX.
Minutes were shared from the various sections of the city and discussions continued until May 2005. At that time
it was determined that the group was ready to organize. Bylaws were written and officers were elected as follows:
Dr. Kaye Harper, President; Rayford Stephens, Vice-President; Lindell Harrison, Secretary; Evelyn Brown, Asst. Secretary;
Elaine Sam, Treasurer; Ezell Harrison, Jr., Asst. Treasurer; Benny Lockett, Parliamentarian, and Susie Gail Stephens, Historian.
The Chapter organized with a membership of ten (10) individuals. It has now more than doubled in size and
is still seeking new members. The Houston Chapter's goal is to support the Corporate Chapter and provide scholarships each year to deserving high
school seniors (one each from the Linden area and the Houston area). At this time, the Houston Chapter has given
eight (8) scholarships to students and provided significant assistance (physical and financial) to the Corporate Chapter. Present officers are:
Rayford Stephens,
President; Gloria Allen-Brown, Vice-President; Donnya Stephens, Secretary; Effie Lockett Boins, Assistant Secretary; Elaine
Sam, Treasurer; Ezell Harrison, Assistant Treasurer; Benny Lockett, Parliamentarian/Historian.
